Ok, Harry had stolen a few nuts that just happened to belong to someone else. Who hasn’t? Why were they so aggressive? Why won’t they stop chasing him? It’s not like he took the town’s entire cache. He just took what he didn’t think would be missed. I mean face it, those stored caches would turn into trees one day because they never remembered where they were.
Harry had his escape route planned. However, he never thought he would have to use it. Also, it didn’t include 10 rodent’s chasing him. Harry caught a figure out of his peripheral. It was the paranoid squirrel, and he was fast. The nut sack was slowing Harry down. He thought about just dropping it. “Nah, I’ve worked too hard for this.”, he mumbled to himself. Harry looked to his left and it seemed as though “paranoid” was getting closer. Harry was running as fast as he could, but couldn’t seem to get away. He couldn’t create the separation he needed.
He gathered up all of his strength and ran to the edge of a branch, trying his best to jump to the next tree. He jumped out as far as he could...and struck the trunk of the tree, HARD! All of sudden Harry saw nothing but black and he felt himself floating. He quickly realized he wasn't floating, he was falling! He hit the ground with a loud thud!
His natural instinct was to jump up and continue running, which he did, but staggered from right to left disoriented. Luckily the adrenaline allowed him to continue forward, but he felt like he was moving in slow motion. Harry whipped his head around and didn't see a single creature. He quickly looked up, left, and right. Nothing. He began to slow down. Something didn’t seem right. One minute he was being chased by half the village and now it seemed as if time has stopped and he was all alone. He wasn’t one to wait around to see what was going to happen next. He ran home.
Harry tossed the sack of nuts in the corner along with the others. He felt odd and perplexed. He didn’t feel the way he normally felt after a heist. He was off. There was a loud snap outside and Harry immediately froze. Why? He heard noises all the time why was this any different? He heard two more snaps. “Ok, someone’s out there.” Three more snaps. He began to wonder who was out there. Then it hit him, “They followed me home!” He couldn’t figure out why they had stopped chasing him. He thought maybe they just gave up, but they hadn’t. They had followed him home! They hadn’t just come for the cache he had stolen. They came for it all. He would be left with nothing if they got in. They would take every nut they could!.
Harry was not going to let his stash go without a fight. He wasn’t sure how many were out there. He geared up for the fight that was coming for him. He grabbed his old Army costume and prepared for battle! With eye black under his eyes, face paint at the ready and 2 huge acorns in his hands, he was ready to defend his nuts! Moments later, Harry’s den was flooded with rodents. He felt a blow to the back of the head and blacked out.
When Harry opened his eyes he realized that he hadn't really been in his den. He was looking up at the sky. The fall from the tree had knocked him unconscious. No one had followed him home. It had all been a dream. He slowly turn his his head left and right. He saw no one but he also didn’t have his sack. It was gone. They had taken their nuts back. He sat up and rubbed the back of his head. All he could think to himself was “You gotta always be ready!”.
